Title: "Taxonomy and Genetic Diversity of Paddy Gundhi Bugs, Leptocorisa spp. in India". My research involved a comprehensive study of the rice earhead bug complex (Leptocorisa spp.) across various agro-ecological regions of India. The study aimed to: Collect and identify Gundhi bug specimens from major rice-growing areas. Perform species-level taxonomy using both morphological traits and genital dissection. Conduct molecular characterization through DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and sequencing of the mitochondrial COI gene. Analyze genetic variability and phylogenetic relationships among populations using software like MEGA X, BioEdit, and FinchTV. Conclusion: The study enhanced understanding of species differentiation, distribution patterns, and genetic diversity in Leptocorisa spp., which are important rice pests. These findings are vital for integrated pest management (IPM) and region-specific control strategies.
Work & Experience
As a Young Professional-I in the Crop Improvement Division, I contributed to coconut genetic and biochemical research with a focus on both fruit quality and value-added products. My responsibilities included: Genomic studies on coconut to assess genetic variability and support crop improvement programs. Fruit component analysis, focusing on parameters such as kernel thickness, water volume, and weight – key traits for breeding selection. Biochemical analysis of neera (unfermented coconut sap) and toddy (fermented sap), assessing sugar content, pH, and nutritional composition. Supported data collection, laboratory assays, and interpretation for ongoing research projects aimed at enhancing the economic potential of coconut-based products. Key Skills Applied: Genomics, biochemical testing, lab-based research, plantation crop evaluation, and technical reporting
Responsible for designing, executing, and evaluating field trials on crop protection products to develop effective pest and disease management solutions. Plays a key role in product development, technical support, and knowledge transfer to internal stakeholders and farming communities. Key Responsibilities: Conduct multi-location field trials in vegetable and fruit crops (e.g., chilli, cucumber, tomato, cabbage, maize, grapes) to assess efficacy of pest and disease management products. Lead trials targeting specific problems such as: Powdery mildew management in grapes and cucumber. Oomycete management in tomato. Pest control for Tuta absoluta, thrips complex in chilli, and grapes. Lay out and monitor LPT (Large Plot Trials) and RBD (Randomized Block Design) trials. Participate in crop tours and technical sales meetings to bridge R&D insights with market needs. Provide expert technical support to sales teams and farmers, including demonstrations and training. Collaborate with product development and marketing teams to analyze trial outcomes and assist in positioning new products. Maintain accurate records, analyze trial data using tools like OPSTAT, WASP, and R, and prepare reports. Required Skills: Strong expertise in integrated pest management (IPM) and entomology. Experience in trial design, pest/disease scouting, and treatment evaluation. Skilled in data analysis, result interpretation, and technical communication. Proficient with MS Office, statistical tools, and agricultural trial protocols. Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities
